Anthony I just discovered your site and listened the show tonight for the first time. Great stuff and nice to hear someone with real practical experience.

I think the answers to your questions are:

1. Turn off the tally light to make your subject unaware of the camera. You also mentioned using a lav instead ofa shotgun.

2. Your light kit consist of the China globe lights but I think you also mentioned a simple Lowel lighting kit.

Ghetto light kit- several bulbs with various wattage
